    Vehicle Details
1948 Diamond T 509 Series Dually Pickup Truck. This vehicle is unique. Diamond T only produced pickup trucks on their smaller 201 chassis with the 4 inch shorter cab. Make no mistake, this is a big truck! Most bigger Diamond T trucks were supplied as 'Cab on Chassis' to be custom fitted for application by the owner or aftermarket. The bed on this cab is custom built in the industrial style of the period. The bed itself is 9 feet long, which in itself presented a challenge as all aftermarket bed floors are built for 8 foot beds. So everything here had to be custom built. The Steer Head and side panels are bead rolled for appearance and strength. The Steer Head design was split into 3 separate panels and welded into the rectangular box tube construction. The top side rails are tubular steel and super strong. The whole bed sits on a rectangular box tubing subframe on top of the original truck frame. In the spirit of the original, this bed is built for ultimate durability. The original chassis was shortened 24 inches in the wheelbase and an additional 12 inches behind the rear wheels to achieve the desired proportions. The super duty frame side supports were shortened but not sectioned. Thus overlapping the frame rail joints for massive strength. The specification plate rates the original truck for a gross vehicle weight of 16,000lbs. I can't imagine anyone wanting to use this truck for that kind of utilitarian duty these days, but should you need to move a small mountain, this truck will do it.The truck retains all of its original engine and drivetrain components, along with its original 6 volt electrical system. The truck comes with the 2 speed rear axle option, which combined with the 4 speed manual transmission gives effectively 8 forward gears and 2 reverse. The cab and chassis were in the current condition when I bought the truck some years ago. The bed is all new.The truck is equipped with a red oak wood-slat bed floor that was installed under current ownership. The rear fenders are from a custom built mold and are fiberglass. Features include dual rear wheels, crank-out windshields, a chrome grille, tow hooks, chrome cab side vents, wood-accented running boards, a side-access battery compartment under the drivers door, plus a storage compartment on the passenger side, and piano-hinged hood sections. The emblems, hood ornament and stainless trim are in beautiful condition. This Diamond T is offered with a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.I have some videos loaded on Youtube so you can get a good all round impression of the vehicle.
