Description
This 1970 H1 came out of my friends estate. I have had it for 12 years. In 2016 I cleaned and regasket the carbs, rebuilt the the gas tank petcock, and cleaned and lined the gas tank with Caswell tank liner. I deployed downrange shortly afterwards and decided not to put any gas in it since I was unsure of when I could get back to work on it. I have always intended to restore the bike but have decided that it is time to pass it on to someone who can give it the restoration it deserves.Last week, July 2021, after 5 years I circled back and got it running. see the cut and past addy below for a video. I installed the Lakeland Performance ignition box I purchased in 2016, poured in a gallon of ethanol free 50% fuel meant for my chainsaw and had it running after about 15 kicks. I starts good now, accelerates crisply and idles well. I did discover that the clutch is bound up, so I have not ridden it.
It has 75,800 miles on the odometer. I shook my head thinking that no one would ride a 2-stroke that far, but looking back on my friends original title, I saw he purchased it in 1979 from a man in Torrington CT. Knowing my friend, I can see him riding it that far in the next 8 years until its last Connecticut registration in 1987. The last plate has a registration year of 1987 which I still have somewhere. I believe that may have been the year the original ignition system failed and the bike got parked. That was the only thing I found that would have kept it from running. I'm not an aficionado of the marque, but I believe the bike is mostly original with the exception of the exhaust and the missing airboxes.
The bike is currently at my Detroit area domicile, however I drive I-75 to my home in Tennessee and may be able to help deliver for food and fuel along the corridor.
