    Description

    Black lacquered wood candle stand
with base and top in the classic
    chrysanthemum shape, and faux
    bamboo stem.
Dates from the Meiji era ....
later(mid 1970's) converted to an electrified
lamp. The conversionwas done w/ minimal
alteration to the candle stand: cord is attached
to the stems with nylon fasteners which can
easily be removed to restore it for use as a
candle holder.(No drilling thru the the stem
of the base.)  Bottom of the base has a partially
torn paper with kanji characters ... illegible to us,
but likely to provide information regarding maker
or precise age.  See photo #8.
    Overall very good condition,commensurate
with age and utility: minor blemishes to the
lacquer finish + 1 crack as shown in the last
2 photos.  Light bulb fitting is a bit wobbly but
remains useable.  Please enlarge and /or
zoom in on all the photos as they are part
    the condition report.
7" diameter of the base x 21.5" height.
    ( 17.5 cm.   x  54.5 cm. height.)
Weight:  approx. 3 lbs. 8 oz.
    NOTE:  Lampshade is NOT included.
