Kikkaseki (Chrysanthemum Stone) is believed to have been formed by underwater volcanic eruptions about 100 million years ago. As the name suggests, it is named because its appearance resembles a chrysanthemum flower. In Japan, the ones harvested in Neomura, Motosu District, Gifu Prefecture, are particularly famous. In 1955, they were designated as a "Special Natural Monument," and currently, mining is prohibited, making them extremely rare stones.
