Multiple rounds of rain are expected in New Jersey this week, including on Thanksgiving, forecasters say.
Rain on the holiday might be inconvenient for some, but it’s much needed in a state still deep in the throes of a serious drought, despite last week’s snow and and rain.
No severe weather or flooding is currently expected when it rains Tuesday and then again Wednesday night into Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
Monday, meanwhile, is likely to be the most pleasant day of the week with sunny skies and mild conditions for late November. Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s before clouds increase later in the day and overnight lows dip into the 40s.
Rain pushes in Tuesday morning on what will be another warm fall day — highs will be in the 50s to low 60s in New Jersey. Up to a quarter inch of rain is possible, with higher amounts in northern areas. We dry out by evening as temps plunge into the upper 20s and low 30s Tuesday night into Wednesday.
We stay dry on Wednesday with some sun and cooler temps, with highs ranging from the low 40s to the low 50s under.
The next round of rain arrives early on Thanksgiving morning. High temps will be right around normal for this time of year — ranging from the low 40s in northwest areas to the the mid 50s in South Jersey, according to the weather service. It’s still to be determined how much rain we’ll get and the severity of it.
“There continue to be model differences with regards to how fast the low moves and how quickly it strengthens, but the ‘big-picture’ is) an increase in rain chances for Thursday/Friday,” the weather service said Monday in its morning forecast discussion.
Earlier concerns about a potential snowstorm on Thanksgiving have faded out, with warmer temperatures and a weaker storm system now expected in the New Jersey region and New York City, although forecasters still say some snow could fall in the Poconos in northeastern Pennsylvania and in interior sections of New York state overnight Thursday.
Some rain could linger into Friday, when temps will be only in the 40s. Early indications are that next weekend will be dry, sunny and chilly with highs only in the upper 30s to mid 40s.
